MONTCLAIR GOLF CLUB HIRES NEW HEAD OF WOMEN’S PLATFORM TENNIS

Florentina Hanisch is No. 1-ranked women’s player in the United States

WEST ORANGE, N.J., May 5, 2021 — Florentina Hanisch, the No. 1-ranked women’s platform tennis player in the United States, has been named head of women’s platform tennis at Montclair Golf Club.

Hanisch recently affirmed her status as the nation’s top player, as ranked by the American Platform Tennis Association, by winning APTA’s Women’s National Championship with her partner, Ana Marija Zubori. The victory was particularly noteworthy since Hanisch entered the event six months pregnant.

Montclair Golf Club is home to one of the tri-state area’s premier racquet programs with state-of-the-art facilities for tennis, platform tennis, and pickleball. In December, the Club opened a new facility expressly devoted to platform tennis and pickleball. The program is headed by Mikk Irdoja, Montclair’s director of racquets, who is the No. 5-ranked men’s platform tennis player in the country.

“We are thrilled to bring in someone the caliber of Florentina to assist with our women’s platform tennis program,” Irdoja said. “She’s not only a great player in her own right but she’s also an exceptional teacher of the game. Our members will love working with her.”

A native of Brazil, Hanisch moved to the United States after high school to attend Wichita State University where she played tennis for the Shockers. As a junior, she was named to the All-Missouri Valley Conference team for both singles and doubles.

It wasn’t until 2015 that she was introduced to platform tennis by her then boyfriend, and now her husband of four years, Martin Bostrom.

“I quickly fell in the love with the sport,” Hanisch said. “And I am extremely excited about joining Montclair Golf Club as I love the passion the members have for platform tennis.”

The 33-year-old Hanisch, who is expecting her first child in late July, will begin her duties at Montclair Golf Club in October in time for the fall season. She will work with members of all ages and skill levels and will oversee the women’s teams representing the Club in the various New Jersey platform tennis leagues as well as state and regional championships.

She is currently employed in a similar capacity at both Westchester County Club in Rye, N.Y., and Plainfield Country Club in Edison, N.J.
