DELIVER ON A PROMISE OR PROTECT PRIVACY?
Privacy versus common sense? I typically don’t use this platform to rant, but I just don’t understand something that happened during the holidays.
A nice person sent me a gift of Shari’s Berries. I don’t know who sent it or what was in the box because I never received it.
FedEx alerted me of its pending arrival and upon delivery, was efficient enough to send a picture of the box—sitting at someone else’s front door. Exhibit A. There was a J on the doormat (our last name begins with M) and a brown paneled door (ours is blue).
I reported the erroneous delivery to FedEx, which said it would endeavor to resolve and retrieve the package in three days. After that, I was told, it was my responsibility to contact the shipper. Mind you, this isn’t about the berries or having more treats in the house. I just wanted to properly thank the thoughtful person who took the time and went to the expense to send a gift.
Longer story short…I contacted Shari’s Berries and they won’t tell me who ordered the package due to privacy policies. I truly don’t understand that rationale? All I want is a first and last name – I can figure it out with those privacy-revealing clues.
From my perspective, this is a lose/lose situation. I come off as an ungrateful (non) recipient of a gift and, to make matters worse, I am berry-less!
Or, is it a scam…gifts are ordered, paid for and not really delivered? The person who ordered and the intended recipient both lose out, as do the vendor and the deliverer. Four touch points, four failures.
Has privacy protection gone too far or am I merely suffering from a Vitamin C deficiency due to lack of berries?
What’s your take on this situation?
