SEPTEMBER: Patriotism & Tradition
The season kicks off with one of Mexico’s most important celebrations: Independence Day, Sept. 15–16. The city comes alive with mariachi music, traditional food, fireworks, and patriotic pride as thousands gather in the Jardín for the reenactment of Father Miguel Hidalgo’s famous Grito de Dolores. Guests can enjoy panoramic views of the festivities from the hotel’s rooftop terrace overlooking the city skyline.
Grape harvest festivals known as vendimias are one of the highlights of the late summer season. The area around San Miguel, in Guanajuato state, has developed into a thriving wine region. December transforms San Miguel de Allende into one of Mexico’s most enchanting holiday destinations. Festivities begin on Dec. 12 with the Feast of the Virgin of Guadalupe, featuring midnight mariachi serenades, candlelit processions, and colorful celebrations honoring Mexico’s patron saint.
From Dec. 16–24, the city comes alive with Las Posadas, featuring nightly candlelit processions that reenact Mary and Joseph’s search for shelter. Visitors can enjoy traditional carols, piñatas, and spontaneous neighborhood celebrations throughout the historic center.
