DOUG THOMPSON -
boasts more than 20 years of experience in the public relations industry, including serving as editor-at-large/senior writer for Hunter Public Relations (HPR) since 1997.
Doug first became acquainted with HPR and its principals in the mid-1990s from his position as editor, and later publisher, of The Carmel Pine Cone, the weekly newspaper based in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. During his tenure there, the newspaper rose to new heights and won six California Newspaper Publishers Association awards for editorial excellence.
Following the sale of the newspaper in 1997, Doug, a journalism graduate, made the move from working for the media to working with the media. He opened his own public relations agency and attracted a diverse client base, which has been augmented by his affiliation with HPR and its national clientele.
Each February, Doug returns to his native Monterey Peninsula to work with HPR client, the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, where he serves as the liaison between the tournament’s participating celebrities and both the print and electronic media.
Though raised in the shadows of Pebble Beach, Doug soon learned that the game of golf didn’t come naturally to him. While he still occasionally tees it up, and savors even the smallest successes, he is a devoted runner who has completed nine marathons, including the 2004 Boston Marathon.
Since 2001, he has resided in Bend in central Oregon with his wife Jean, daughter Paige, and his faithful Labrador running companions, Lorna and Jackson.
