CHICK-FIL-A BOWL CHALLENGE PLAYED AT GREAT WATERS TO AIR AUGUST 7 ON ESPN
Greensboro, Ga. (July 28, 2010) – ESPN will debut the 2010 Chick-fil-A Challenge hosted by Reynolds Plantation on August 7th at noon EDT. The event features some of the biggest names in college sports representing 12 different universities and competing for $400,000 in scholarship money.
Coaches, including Steve Spurrier, Nick Saban, Frank Beamer and Houston Nutt, play in a unique format that pairs an NCAA head coach with a celebrity alumnus from the same school against their collegiate rivals. The competition was conducted over 18 holes on the newly renovated Great Waters course, a Jack Nicklaus design at Reynolds Plantation.
“We really had a spectacular day on the golf course and this incredible group of coaches and celebrities represented their universities in a first-class way,” said Gary Stokan, Chick-fil-A Bowl president and CEO. “But the privilege was all ours in being able to give so much back to these great schools and great competitors.”
The Chick-fil-A Challenge was filmed by ESPN at Great Waters in April with commentators Rece Davis and Andre Ware calling the action and giving viewers a peek inside the lives of these coaches and celebrities “off the field.”
University teams include:
Florida State (Jimbo Fisher/Terrell Buckley)
Georgia Tech (Paul Johnson/Jon Barry)
South Carolina (Steve Spurrier/Sterling Sharpe)
North Carolina (Butch Davis/Natrone Means)
N.C. State (Sidney Lowe/Monte Towe)
Alabama (Nick Saban/Steve Sloan)
Maryland (Ralph Friedgen/Stan Gelbaugh)
Vanderbilt (Bobby Johnson/Will Perdue)
Wake Forest (Jim Grobe/Billy Packer)
Ole Miss (Houston Nutt/Wesley Walls)
