SHAWNEE ON DELAWARE, Pa. (June 29, 2010) — A room and a show, plus breakfast, for less than $100? That’s the value package currently being offered by The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort.

With check-in on any Wednesday or Thursday night from now through Sept. 2, Shawnee’s “Room and Show” package includes:

  • Overnight lodging accommodations at the Shawnee Inn, each with a veranda overlooking the Delaware River and mountains

  • Two tickets to a Shawnee Playhouse production

  • Breakfast in The River Room restaurant the morning of check-out

Rates are $99/person/night and are based on double occupancy. Children (ages 4-11) can be added to the package for $24.00 per person, while youths (12-17) are an additional $30.00 per person.

Here is a look at some of the headline shows being held between now and Labor Day weekend (weekday performances begin at 8 p.m.):

  • “I Do, I Do” (Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones)

  • “The Music Man” (Meredith Wilson)

  • “The Last of the Red Hot Lovers” (Neil Simon)

  • “The Secret Garden” (Marsha Norman and Lucy Simon)

Children’s shows also are available: “Mark Mysterrio’s Tales of Magic and Mystery for Kids” and, beginning July 8, “Willy Wonka Junior.” All children’s shows begin at 10 a.m.

The historic Playhouse was originally built in 1904 as the Worthington Hall. Today’s Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort was originally called The Buckwood Inn, which was sold in 1943 to famous entertainer Fred Waring and became a favorite retreat for his celebrity friends, including Jackie Gleason (who learned to play golf at Shawnee), Lucille Ball, Art Carney, Perry Como, President Dwight D. Eisenhower, Eddie Fisher, George Gobel and Ed Sullivan.

The Kirkwood family later restored Worthington Hall when they purchased the resort in 1978. Following a devastating fire in 1985, the Playhouse was rebuilt and today is home to quality, year-round live theatre that is enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.

The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort, perched on the Delaware River, is an ideal summer getaway with 27 holes of golf, river boating and rafting, guided fishing trips, swimming, and biking and hiking trails. The Spa Shawnee and Salon, meanwhile, is the perfect antidote after an active day.
