From national ski team coach, to cycling champion, to racing bike design innovator, Lennon has become a legendary figure in every facet of his extraordinary sporting life. He was the first to build a handlebar that was designed to achieve a narrower and more aerodynamic profile for the rider. The Lennon Bars – more commonly known as aero bars – were constructed to achieve a number of subtle differences in body position from conventional handlebars. One early user of the sleek, specialized handlebars was Greg LeMond, who found them instrumental in his 1989 victory at the Tour de France. Today, aero bars are a mainstay for triathletes.

“What a fantastic experience – riding with the former trainer of Greg LeMond and coach of the U.S. Alpine Skiing Team,” commented Chris Hamlin of Norfolk, an attendee of Lennon’s Spring 2009 Bike Camp at Wintergreen. “Boone is such a great teacher and has a wealth of experience and information that makes the ride go by too quickly.”

At the Wintergreen Resort camps, Lennon will teach bike handling skills, basic mechanical skills and group riding techniques for both competitive and recreational riders, plus training discussions during and after all rides. Each camp begins at 9 a.m. with registration that will include proper fitting and mechanical checks for all guests’ bikes. The actual ride begins at 10 a.m.

Each day will feature a different ride, depending upon group make up and weather. Routes range from cycling south on the Blue Ridge Parkway, meandering along some of Nelson County’s back roads to traveling over the mountain to Vesuvius and exploring Augusta County’s back roads.

“Being a fair weather cyclist, I was apprehensive about riding with Boone,” commented another participant last spring’s bike camp.   “Those worries dissipated when I met Boone and experienced his riding philosophy. I had a great time. I kept up with the group, learned new skills and recommitted myself to ride more often.  It is such an exhilarating experience!”
